Configuring Thunderbird to use POP3

ROF.NET setup information

  • Mail server name (incoming): mail.rof.net
  • Mail server name (outgoing): smtp.rof.net

When you first install Mozilla Thunderbird a wizard will help you through the setup process. If you have previously installed an email client, e.g. Netscape Mail or MS Outlook, setup can import your preferences, account settings, addressbook, etc.

In the example below MS Outlook has been detected.  We will not import any previous mail folders or other data at this time:

  • Select your import preference and click Next.  A new window will open:

  • Select Email account and click Next.  A new window will open:
  • Enter your name and email address in the form as seen above then click Next.   A new window will open:

  • Select POP as the preferred server type

  • Enter your incoming mail server as:

pop.st-andrews.ac.uk 

  • Enter your outgoing mail server as:

mailhost.st-andrews.ac.uk

  • Click Next.  A new window will open:

  • Your incoming and outgoing username should be entered automatically.  If not, enter your email username in the spaces provided.

  • Click Next.  A new window will open:

  • Give your account a name, e.g. Work or MMM45

  • Click Continue.  A final screen will show your account configuration:

    Click Finish to complete the setup
